Hyperscale networking software startup Arrcus Inc. said today it’s planning to transform 5G networks to enable communications service providers to deliver a wealth of new services and make money from their infrastructure with a much lower total cost of ownership.

The company plans to showcase the latest version of its Arrcus Connected Edge platform and a number of related networking offerings at next week’s MWC 2023 mobile world congress in Barcelona.

The ACE platform is a highly programmable, cloud-native offering that’s said to modernize 5G networks from the edge to multiple clouds. It’s the centerpiece of Arrcus’ networking portfolio, built atop of its foundational network operating system and featuring 5G, multicloud connectivity, analytics and management capabilities all bundled into a unified platform.

Companies can use ACE platform to address numerous next-generation networking use cases, such as multi-access edge computing, and for 5G-XHaul for Open RAN, which allows CSPs to build a modern, open 5G network using nonproprietary components. It can also address hyperscale data center networking, service provider aggregation with core and edge routing, and multicloud networking.

Arrcus Chief Executive and Chairman Shekar Ayyar said MWC 2023 will bring together the most important network providers in the communications industry to aid cloud service providers or CSPs. “We look forward to demonstrating what makes Arrcus networking unique for CSPs to unify and simplify their infrastructure, lower their capital and operational networking expenses, and drive greater value from their network investments through new services,” he said.

Among the highlights, Arrcus will showcase new innovations that are designed to enable CSPs to deliver 5G services such as network slicing, which overlays multiple virtual networks on top of a shared network and computing resources. CSPs will be able to launch new services much more quickly than before, while easily controlling and monitoring those segments and improving scalability with unique policies for each network slice. It will also highlight its unique multi-access edge compute capabilities, which make it possible for CSPs to deploy network resources closer to end users to power low-latency, high-performance applications.

Arrcus explained that these advanced capabilities are made possible by its new SRv6 technology with Flex-Algo. At MWC 2023, It will demonstrate SRv6 for Mobile User Plane, an MPLS-based routing protocol that allows CSPs to build more flexible and efficient networks, in cooperation with SoftBank Group Corp. MPLS stands for multiprotocol label switching, a networking technology that routes traffic using the shortest path based on labels instead of network addresses.

At the same time, the company will also show off its FlexMCN solution for hyperscale data center and cloud operators. FlexMCN is a technology that can interconnect enterprise-scale data centers with any kind of cloud while providing hyperscale-level performance and strong security. It offers multitenancy with role-based access controls, making it simple for CSPs and co-location providers to deliver multicloud connectivity-as-a-service and other managed services. Because it’s based on an application programming interface-first architecture, FlexMCN can easily integrate with third-party orchestration and management platforms, the company says.

Roy Chua, founder and principal analyst at AvidThink LLC, said Arrcus’ new developments look promising because network operators are struggling to make money from their infrastructures and increase average revenue per user through innovative new services. There’s also a strong need in the industry to unify networks from the edge to the cloud. “This requires a more flexible, programmable approach,” Chua said. “We are excited to see Arrcus delivering new software-defined capabilities with its ACE platform to help operators overcome their challenges.”
