Dell charts new territories with AI and Project Helix: TheCUBE analysts dissect Dell Technologies World insights
As day 3 of Dell Technologies World kicked off, theCUBE industry analysts broke down their insights for the first two days of the event, as well as key observations from their interviews with Dell Technologies Inc.’s Michael Dell, chief executive officer, and Jeff Clarke, chief operating officer and vice chairman.
“It’s the year of AI and Project Helix,” said theCUBE’s Dave Vellante. “Dell stock is not going to get a big lift; they’re not considered an AI play. Although, you could see how AI could definitely lift their business and a lot of infrastructure companies.”
Reflecting on the historical tech boom brought by the advent of the internet, Vellante likened the potential of AI to a rising tide that could lift all boats.
Vellante and his co-analyst Lisa Martin discussed this and more at Dell Technologies World, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. (* Disclosure below.)
AI and Project Helix: A leap toward a new technological era
Known for his passion for engineering over showmanship, Clarke has always maintained an undeterred focus on creating value for customers.
“He rattles off all the patents, the products, one after the other, he keeps it all in his head, uses no notes. I’m really in awe of his capabilities,” Vellante said.
The analysts also discussed the much-anticipated Project Helix, a joint initiative from Dell and Nvidia Corp. designed to help companies run generative AI software in their own on-premises data centers. Helix signals an important shift in Dell’s approach to new product announcements, hinting at its commitment to customer direction and a desire to maintain market position, according to Vellante.
Michael Dell’s leadership: A key driver of success
Michael Dell’s longstanding leadership is a defining factor in Dell’s ability to innovate and adapt to changing market trends. This clear direction from the top is critical for a company like Dell, which has undergone significant changes and faced numerous challenges.
“You’ve got a CEO leader, founder-led company,” Vellante said. “There’s always clarity. You can see it from top to bottom, and it shows.”
The Dell CEO’s long-term vision has helped the company maintain consistent growth while avoiding the pitfalls that other companies, like IBM Corp., have faced. Michael Dell’s unwavering leadership has been instrumental in guiding Dell through various transitions, including the strategic acquisition of EMC, restructuring of debt and return to the public market with a clean balance sheet.
Looking ahead: Healthcare and tech intersection
In an exclusive interview with theCUBE during this week’s event, Vellante asked Michael Dell what kind of company he would choose to start if he were 19 again. Dell identified healthcare as an industry ripe for transformation, with technology as the catalyst to tackle its deep-seated problems.
“That was an epiphany for me, because basically what he’s saying is the healthcare industry has so many deep problems, and the technology industry and healthcare, especially now with AI, are colliding in a way that technology can drive transformation of that industry,” Vellante said.
This revelation is a testament to Dell’s forward-thinking approach, further reinforcing the importance of leveraging technology to bridge gaps across industries. As Michael Dell himself has proven time and again, the most effective solutions are born when technology is wielded to address real-world challenges.
