Cloud data protection startup Nightfall AI today announced a new partnership with cybersecurity company Snyk Ltd. to provide developers with artificial intelligence-powered secrets scanning capabilities.
Secrets, in terms of what Nightfall scans for, are passwords, application programming interface keys, token and database credentials used by applications to validate users’ identities, ensure secure communications and provide access to privileged information. They’re often shared and proliferated across collaborative apps such as GitHub and Slack. But according to a recent study from Nightfall, more than five active keys are leaked in the cloud per 100 employees — per month.
With secrets leaking, threat actors can gain access to corporate networks and steal sensitive company data. Given the prevalent risk of leaked secrets, Snyk and Nightfall have partnered to ensure that DevOps and security teams have the tools they need to strengthen their software supply chains.
Nightfall’s AI-native cloud data loss prevention solution with advanced secrets detection will amplify Snyk’s security for developers across key software-as-a-service apps and generative AI tools, including GitHub, Slack and Jira. The partnership will also help with remediating leaked secrets via Nightfall’s advanced developer-centric remediation capabilities.
Under the terms of the partnership, Snyk will cosell Nightfall’s platform as part of its security solution for developers.
“The code-to-cloud lifecycle presents several unique security challenges, especially around the area of leaked secrets,” said Snyk Chief Product Officer Manoj Nair. “Legacy secret scanning solutions are riddled with false positives and focus solely on code repositories instead of the broader-aperture of tools that developers use on a daily basis.”
Nair added that Snyk’s partnership with Nightfall will bring best-of-breed, AI-powered secrets scanning to Snyk customers to deliver comprehensive developer security. Nightfall is available for Synk customers beginning today.
Nightfall AI is a venture capital-backed startup, having last raised $40 million in a Series B round in August 2022. Investors in the company include Bain Capital Ventures Partners LLC, Venrock Associates L.P., Pear Venture Partners LLC and several individual investors, including Antman actor Paul Rudd.
Nair spoke to theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media Inc.’s live streaming studio, in July on how Snyk supports developer security with its code-based, AI-driven cloud platform:
