Firmware and hardware security startup Eclypsium Inc. today announced a new collaboration with Intel Corp. to provide enhanced visibility into supply chains with the Eclypsium Supply Chain Security Platform.

The partnership aims to help businesses in improve mean time to detection and bolster security posture while lowering hardware costs by extending the life cycle of devices. The combination delivers regulatory compliance through the implementation of security controls for device integrity and firmware security, reduces supply chain risk through improved information technology procurement decisions, and offers quick assessment of the impact of threats.

Intel and Eclypsium are seeking to address the issue wherein the globalization of supply chains, coupled with complexities in modern manufacturing logistics, makes it increasingly difficult for businesses to trace the origin and safety of the components within their devices. With reported firmware attacks rising, supply chain risk is a growing concern, putting organizations at risk of being breached because current supply chain practices only screen counterfeit components, not dubious firmware.

“Businesses need assurance that their data center suppliers can provide tamper-proof supply chains, from the manufacturing facility all the way into the hands of the end user,” said Eclypsium co-founder and Chief Executive Yuriy Bulygin. “Organizations need the ability to validate the authenticity and integrity of components and software from their suppliers.”

Eclypsium’s partnership with Intel is said to fill a void in existing supply chain security practices by tracking vulnerabilities and ensuring the integrity of critical device components and software. “Our goal is to create trust in the infrastructure supply chain through transparency,” Bulygin added.

The collaboration includes tapping into Intel Endpoint Cloud Services for vulnerability management and supply chain risk, as well as Insights from Intel Transparent Supply Chain and Intel Device Health. In combination with Eclypsium, customers gain insights that allow them to act with detailed and up-to-date information.”

The Intel services include Intel Transparent Supply Chain, a set of tools, policies, procedures and data capture that extend from motherboard production through the manufacturing factory floor and the data center, allowing users to verify the authenticity of components, installed firmware and the configuration of their systems.

Eclypsium is a venture capital-backed startup, having last raised $25 million in funding in October 2022. Investors in the company include Ten Eleven Ventures LLC, KDDI Open Innovation Fund LLC, J-Ventures Inc., Andreessen Horowitz, Madrona Venture Group LLC, Alumni Ventures LLC, AV8 Ventures LLC, Mindset Ventures LLC, Oregon Venture Fund LLC, Translink Capital Management LLC and Ubiquity Ventures LLC. Intel Capital Corp., Intel’s venture capital arm, is also an investor.
