From greenhouses to cloud: Nature Fresh Farms enhances efficiency with Boomi middleware
At Nature Fresh Farms Inc., a 250-acre greenhouse known for its bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers, agricultural technology integration is revolutionizing farming practices.
The company implemented Boomi LP middleware to automate invoice matching, OCR scanning and paperless processes, leading to improved efficiency and collaboration across departments. Accountability and productivity increased when the fault department was eliminated, according to Keith Bradley (pictured, left), vice president of information technology at Nature Fresh Farms.
“When we implemented Boomi, it allowed us to just basically go paperless, which is a great thing to do,” he said. “It also allowed us to get rid of that hostility and break down those silos where we don’t want to work with somebody because we don’t seem to be able to talk to them. It made us so much better as a product for us. Boomi has just grown its tentacles out. It’s grown into our temporary foreign labor worker program, housing, etc.”
Bradley and Ed Macosky (right), chief product and technology officer of Boomi, spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier at Boomi World, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how Nature Fresh Farms is integrating technology into agriculture with Boomi middleware, improving efficiency, collaboration and automation. (* Disclosure below.)
Advancing agriculture through technology integration
The low-code model and integration provided by Boomi allows non-DevOps teams to unleash creativity and democratize processes, reducing reliance on DevOps teams and enabling efficient onboarding and transfers, Bradley explained.
“One of the things that we did so differently was we not only trained our development team on the Boomi platform, but we also encouraged the accounting team and purchase office team to join and learn how the platform works,” he said. “They actually have a general understanding of it. With the AI within the Boomi platform, now I can see them start to be able to dabble into, say, “Hey, I do want to change this integration a little bit. I want to add this.” That’s where I see the next greatest thing happening for us.”
Embracing transformation from legacy to cloud, Boomi focuses on building an outer platform for generative work and helping customers modernize with hybrid multi-cloud technology, Macosky explained.
“We are hybrid multicloud … we are in a perfect position to help customers modernize,” he said. “I will never advise someone to leave a legacy system just to leave one, but if they have to, there are those reasons for doing that. Our foundation automatically helps our customers handle those scenarios, particularly in the generative AI world where we can bridge the gaps in getting access to those data sources and or automating those systems with our technology.”
