Storyblok raises $80M to add AI content tools to its ‘headless’ CMS platform
Content management startup Storyblok GmbH, which provides a content management system for organizations using the “headless” concept, today announced that it has raised $80 in a new funding round led by Brighton Park Capital.
Existing investors HV Capital, Mubadala Capital, 3VC and Firstminute Capital also participated in the Series C round, which brought the total funding raised by the company to date to $138 million.
Storyblok provides a customizable content management system that is “headless,” or essentially decouples the content management from storage and presentation. This allows developers and business users to more easily develop presentations that can change according to where content is being displayed so that it appears approximately on the web, a mobile device, a kiosk or other application interface.
The company also tries to meet a middle ground between a website builder that provides rigid templates out of the box or a system that dumps all the building blocks into a developer’s lap and has them build everything from the ground up.
“Consumers expect great and consistent content experiences wherever they are. But businesses are having a hard time keeping up,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Dominik Angerer. “Storyblok already helps thousands of teams to develop and deliver the modern content experiences people love.”
Angerer cited Storyblok’s research stating that of 500 businesses surveyed across the U.S. and Europe, 48% were “embarrassed” by their own websites, noting that they failed to meet their own content presentation expectations.
He said that the funding would be used to bring new artificial intelligence tools to the creation process for Storyblok users to help them refine their creative thoughts and content creation. This will mean a layer of generative AI tools that could help them streamline and build their creative workflows by using their imaginations and text prompts.
The company also announced the public beta launch of the Ideation Room, what the company calls a “centralized collaborative space,” for nontechnical users where they can express new ideas together with the new AI tools. Among those tools include a generative AI capability that allows users to create text from prompts and refine already existing written text to summarize, change tone, rephrase, improve clarity and more.
Storyblok currently boasts a user base of more than 200,000 developers and marketers from big brands such as Adidas, T-Mobile, Renault and Oatly who use the platform to enhance their apps and digital content experiences. The company’s team is fully remote and spans 45 countries with 240 people and, with the new funding, that will be expanding.
