Fortanix expands Key Insight to enhance cryptographic security across hybrid environments

Multicloud security firm Fortanix Inc. today announced an expansion of its Key Insight solution that allows organizations to discover, assess and remediate fragmented cryptographic security risks.

With the expansion, Key Insight can now scan databases and storage to discover encryption keys and data services across hybrid environments, including on-premises. Fortanix says the approach is critical to organizations that want to protect their data against threats in a post-quantum computing era.

The expansion seeks to address the issue wherein heavily regulated sectors such as telecom, healthcare and financial service often encrypt sensitive data to meet compliance. But with data residing across multiple cloud and on-prem environments, organizations often lose track of where their encryption keys are or how well cryptography is applied. Thrown into the mix is that manual discovery and enumeration of a company’s cryptography security posture details is complex and time-consuming.

Not being able to track cryptography keys and how cryptography is applied is not ideal, let alone a massive security risk, and that’s where the expanded Key Insight solution steps in. It now allows users to scan encryption keys and related data services on-prem, with Fortanix claiming that makes it the first product to do so across hybrid multicloud environments. The product allows teams to discover, assess and remediate cryptographic security posture from a single platform.

Additional enhancements in the new release include federated authentication for improved access control, which allows for seamless integration into an organization’s existing identity access management infrastructure.

“As businesses take advantage of the many advantages that hybrid multicloud architectures offer, they also create an abundance of hidden risks due to data and encryption key sprawl,” said Anuj Jaiswal, vice president of products at Fortanix. “As data encryption becomes so dispersed, security and compliance teams have no insight into where they apply cryptography and how well their sensitive data is protected. In these instances, Fortanix Key Insight is what these businesses need to become safer faster.”

The latest enhancements allow users to discover and monitor encryption keys and data services across on-premises and multicloud environments and quickly assess the security of these services across an enterprise’s digital infrastructure from a single view, according to the company. Users can simplify audits to ensure alignment with internal policies, industry regulations and best practices and obtain immediate insights into the most at-risk data services to accelerate security posture improvements.

Fortanix was previously in the news in April when it announced the general availability of Key Insight, the same product being expanded upon today. Key Insight enables enterprises to discover, assess and remediate risk and compliance gaps across hybrid multicloud environments.
