How GitLab and Google Cloud Marketplace streamline deployment and improve customer satisfaction
Organizations are increasingly turning to cloud-based security solutions to protect their data and streamline workflows in today’s digital landscape. These solutions provide flexible, scalable options that enhance security without compromising efficiency.
The partnership between Google LLC and GitLab Inc. leverages cloud-based security solutions to reshape developer productivity and security by merging tools and resources, creating a streamlined experience that reaches customers faster and simplifies deployment. The collaboration enhances the developer experience by simplifying procurement and optimizing deployment through these cloud-based security solutions on Google Cloud Marketplace. The partnership accelerates GitLab’s time-to-market and elevates customer satisfaction by providing an integrated, seamless experience that eliminates productivity interruptions — a critical factor for both GitLab and Google Cloud.
“You’re able to streamline the entire procurement process from discovery to deployment, and that also leads to increased customer satisfaction, which is the number one thing we are always looking at,” said Ashley Kramer (pictured, right), interim chief revenue officer and chief strategy and marketing officer at GitLab. “When you have a partnership like we have with Google Cloud and deployment like we have on Marketplace, that can be extremely seamless and not cause a break in … productivity.”
Kramer and Stephen Orban (left), vice president of migrations, ISVs and marketplace, at Google Cloud, spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier for the Google Cloud Marketplace Marvels interview series, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how the partnership enhances developer workflows through integration and streamlined deployment via the Google Cloud Marketplace, with a focus on cloud-based security solutions and customer satisfaction. Driving business growth through innovative cloud-based security solutions
Google Cloud Marketplace is designed to streamline software procurement, making it easier for customers to find, purchase and deploy cloud-based security solutions at speed, according to Orban. With a focus on reducing barriers for software providers and developers, Google Cloud aims to foster an ecosystem where innovation can reach the market faster.
“If I think about some of how GitLab and Google Cloud’s motives at the highest levels are aligned, we just want to meet our customers where they are, and we share a passion for developers,” he said. “We want to be able to meet the developer with the right technology and the right tool wherever it is that they’re doing their work.”
The Google Cloud Marketplace opens new opportunities for GitLab by expanding its reach and visibility among potential customers. By enabling simplified transactions and allowing customers to use Google Cloud credits for GitLab purchases, the Marketplace offers both visibility and convenience, according to Kramer.
“Being listed on the Marketplace really exposes us to a wider audience of Google customers,” Kramer explained. “There’s [also] the simplified procurement for our joint customers. They can easily purchase and deploy GitLab — super important for us — so they can find value faster. And then, Google takes care of the rest.”
The collaboration between Google Cloud and GitLab centers around speed, flexibility and ease of integration. By combining resources, the two companies allow developers to leverage GitLab’s capabilities directly on Google’s infrastructure, further streamlining workflows, according to Orban.
“Security and developing secure software is job zero for us as the cloud provider,” he said. “The fact that GitLab provides a whole suite of tools that helps developers do that securely and is able to help lots of customers is really a game changer. It helps our customers — the developers — be more comfortable using our platform when we have partners like GitLab.”
Integrated solutions for modern developer needs
GitLab’s partnership with Google Cloud is grounded in delivering a comprehensive development, security and operations experience, enhancing cloud-based security solutions and streamlining workflows through deep integrations. By embedding GitLab into Google Cloud’s Developer Console, the partnership allows developers to work seamlessly without leaving their preferred environment, according to Kramer.
“The ‘sec’ in DevSecOps is to us the most important piece of the software development lifecycle in general,” she said. “We need to shift left, and we need to make sure that it’s part of the everyday workflow of developers. When it comes to our integrations with Google Cloud, we have done really interesting integrations, like we are integrated in their developer console.”
This integrated approach allows both companies to respond to evolving demands, enabling scalability and improvements in cloud-based security solutions, according to Orban.
“The integrations … continue to get better and build upon itself,” he said. “It’s this reinforcing flywheel that keeps getting better and better over time as we get more and more customer feedback to respond to.”
One notable customer success story is Airwallex Pty Ltd., an Australian fintech company that achieved faster deployments and feature delivery by consolidating on GitLab and Google Cloud, according to Kramer. Faced with scaling challenges, Airwallex leveraged the partnership to enhance its fraud detection systems and meet high availability requirements.
“In the end, they were able to actually consolidate on 95% of their services on GitLab and Google because of the partnership,” Kramer said. “As a result, they saw eight-times faster deployments and four-times faster feature delivery because of the partnership and, of course, the Marketplace purchases they were able to make.”
A connected ecosystem for developer empowerment
Google Cloud and GitLab’s partnership advances secure, efficient and scalable development environments, providing cloud-based security solutions that align with developer needs, according to Orban.
“Our mission is to keep developers happy together,” he said. “From the very beginning of Google Cloud, we knew that in order to help our customers achieve transformations … we were going to need the most robust ecosystem to help them do that. When it comes to developers within our customer base, GitLab is at the top of the list of helping them achieve those transformations.”
Combining Google Cloud’s AI capabilities and GitLab’s expertise, the two companies enhance developer experiences, speed up delivery times and offer cloud-based security solutions, according to Kramer. Integration tools, such as Google’s Vertex AI platform, allow customers to secure data and customize adaptive models, ensuring development aligns with organizational requirements.
“With the rise of [artificial intelligence], there’s a lot more you’ll see coming from us,” Kramer said. “Most importantly … our joint customers are excited about where we’re going. That’s what it’s all about, meeting customers where they are, and often that’s GitLab and Google Cloud.”
