Tanium introduces autonomous endpoint management to enhance IT and security operations
Cybersecurity software provider Tanium Inc. today announced new artificial intelligence-powered autonomous innovations at its Converge 2024 user conference, designed to transform how information technology and security teams manage their environments.
Leading the list is Tanium Autonomous Endpoint Management, a new service that enhances and extends the company’s existing offering through a set of autonomous capabilities across its real-time platform. They include asset discovery and inventory, vulnerability management, endpoint management, incident response and digital employee experience.
The new service seeks to address the issue wherein organizations are stretched too thin and budgets are not keeping up with the demands of the business, creating a need for IT and security operations teams to automate time-consuming, mundane and repetitive tasks. Tanium says knowing what tasks to prioritize and automate can be a challenge. Without the benefit of real-time data, automation can become unreliable in highly dynamic environments, leading to operation issues, disruptions and security risks.
Tanium AEM tackles these issues through three foundational technologies, starting with real-time cloud intelligence. That allows the service to measure and analyze the impact of changes across endpoints in real-time to predict the impact of change on similar endpoints via confidence scores.
The service also features Tanium Automate, which supports system-wide, endpoint-level automation playbooks for IT and security workflows to be created with low- and no-code experiences. Automate leverages real-time data by continually evaluating the current state of the IT environment, improving the reliability and accuracy of playbook execution.
Tanium AEM also features deployment templates and rings that allow IT operations to phase deployments across endpoint groups to match the cadence of the business with the criticality of the change itself. Deployment rings are used to support entry and exit criteria for change execution, making deployments well-managed and repeatable and, in the process, effectively lowering risk and cost.
Users interact with Tanium AEM through three primary autonomous controls, each designed to optimize IT management and security workflows. Tanium Guide analyzes an organization’s IT environment in real time to offer tailored recommendations for endpoint changes with confidence scores that indicate the likelihood of success. That allows IT teams to make data-driven decisions quickly and efficiently.
Building on these insights, Tanium Adaptive Actions automates responses, linking the recommendations from the Tanium Guide to deployment playbooks that accelerate response times. Meanwhile, Tanium Action Oversight gives users full control over the platform’s autonomous capabilities, offering comprehensive visibility, governance and reporting.
The new controls also enhance existing capabilities, including Tanium Ask, an AI-driven natural language interface that queries data from millions of endpoints, simplifying complex tasks and accelerating response times.
“Tanium AEM leverages real-time insights from millions of Tanium cloud-managed endpoints to recommend and automate changes on endpoints within a customer’s environment, giving IT and security teams a safe, scalable and automated platform to deliver increasingly efficient operations and an improved security posture,” said Chief Technology Officer Matt Quinn. “Tanium AEM provides customers the confidence to take the right action at the right time, giving them the power of certainty based on real-time data at scale.”
