Orca Security unveils Sensor for enhanced cloud runtime protection

Cloud cybersecurity startup Orca Security Ltd. today announced the launch of Orca Sensor, a lightweight security solution that integrates runtime visibility and protection with the Orca Cloud Security Platform.

Orca Sensor has been designed as a non-intrusive extended Berkeley Packet Filter-based sensor that provides runtime visibility and protection natively integrated with the Orca Cloud Security Platform. The sensor builds on the platform’s existing “SideScanning” approach to security to provide complete coverage and risk detection, covering all assets across an organization’s cloud estate.

The service prioritizes alerts using a holistic unified data model that combines workload data, such as vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, malware and file integrity monitoring, with threat intelligence and environmental context, such as accessibility and potential business impact.

Key features of Orca Sensor include a focus on rapid deployment and ease of maintenance. The sensor offers lightweight, non-intrusive installation across Kubernetes clusters, virtual machines and Elastic Container Service clusters. Automatic updates reduce the maintenance burden compared to legacy tools to ensure protection for diverse cloud assets.

Orca Sensor provides real-time capabilities to monitor activity, detect threats and identify malicious behaviors. Its runtime detections span DNS, files, networks and processes for visibility and is directly integrated with the Orca Cloud Security Platform for faster response to emerging risks.

Additionally, the service offers flexible and customizable policies that empower organizations to fine-tune their security measures with minimal manual intervention. The sensor also supports future innovations, such as advanced vulnerability management and expanded workload visibility, to help businesses build an extensible and unified security platform.

“Organizations today face a critical challenge in securing their cloud-native applications without sacrificing performance or agility,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Gil Geron. “Orca Sensor addresses this head-on by providing real-time visibility and protection for VMs, containers and Kubernetes without the overhead of traditional agent-based tools” by empowering “DevOps teams to deploy security seamlessly across diverse cloud environments while providing the deep runtime insights needed to detect and prevent threats.”

The Orca Cloud Security Cloud Platform, of which Orca Sensor is a part, provides coverage for Amazon Web Services Inc., Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Oracle Cloud and Alibaba Cloud environments.
