Qualcomm Exec Joins Millennial Media’s Team

Millennial Media’s been building up its resources, partners and products in the past few months, focusing on firmly establishing its platform as the mobile ad company remains one of the largest independent networks of its kind.  The latest addition is former Qualcomm executive Isaac Babbs as the new SVP of Biz Dev.   Bringing in 25 years of experience in the mobile, technology, media and entertainment sector, Isaac Babbs joins Millenial Media as Senior Vice President of Business Development.  This is an indication of Millennial’s goals for its sales team and partnership-building.

The company also appointed Matt Gillis as Senior Vice President of Global Monetization Solutions to look into the company’s tools and monetization services.  Staying ahead in this area will be key for Millennial Media as it remains independent or looks to sell.  Millennial’s been an attractive consideration for RIM and Apple in recent months, but’s moved forward with an IPO to strengthen its position.

“Isaac has been a key innovator in the mobile, technology, media, and entertainment spaces for over 25 years, and his track record of being a catalyst for growth will be invaluable to Millennial Media,” said Paul Palmieri, President and CEO, Millennial Media. “He brings extensive relationships and mobile expertise, and we’re thrilled to have him officially join the team.”

Before joining Millennial Media, Babbs served as Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Services Labs as well as Vice President of Business Development at Qualcomm Inc. The former role puts Babbs as a leader in internal efforts, commercializing and launching mobile services internally.  He has also been a Millennial Media advisory board member since 2006.

Millennial’s been building its portfolio through investments as well.  Condaptive is the latest addition, layering in more location-based analysis for Millennial’s mobile ad network.  Analytics has been an important investment for a number of mobile service providers, including Nokia.  IBM’s already putting location-aware data to work in the public sector, investing a great deal in smart cities.  Millennial’s had a string of milestones this year, taking advantage of a $27.5 million investment round.  The company has big goals for extending its network beyond phones, working its way across the span of the mobile industry.
