Personal computer companies suffered from low sales as mobile devices gained traction, and it seems like server makers are soon to follow, as companies like Facebook and Google are leading the DIY server trends, another area potentially affecting vendors like HP and Dell.
Though PC and server sales may soon end up down the drain, Dell has no plans of selling or abandoning the PC business.
“We love the PC business,” Dell’s Steve Felice said. “It’s part of the full set of solutions that we have as a company and we are very committed to that business.”
They strongly believe that their company will greatly benefit if HP does walk away from the PC business, as Dell hopes to be welcoming HP customers with a big smile on their face. But as HP stumbles into a software-centric future, is Dell ready to make the leap as well? Just like HP, their tablet market has yet to take off and they face competition from the iPad.
“I anticipate we will ramp it up as ecosystems get more mature. So probably next year some time. We won’t enter the tablet space until we think we can sell millions of them. There is significant unmet needs in the commercial market place in this segment,” Felice went on.
Despite a few hiccups in the past year, Dell is very confident in their mobile devices, with plans to introduce more innovative products in the coming months. They are also set on focusing more on new generation technologies – cloud computing.
This ushers in the latest development regarding the Force10 acquisition, as Dell India Chairman and Dell Services Executive Vice-President Suresh Vaswani stated that the deal has been completed and they expect to double the workforce by 2012. Force10 currently has 256 employees and they plan to increase that number by hiring new members in engineering, sales and marketing, service jobs in Chennai research and development centers.
“We now look forward to Force1’s Chennai R&D team bolstering our foray into Networking. We plan to significantly increase the engineering headcount at Force10 Chennai over the next one year”, Vaswani said.
