Prosper AI raises $5M to deliver voice AI agents for healthcare

Prosper AI Inc., a company building voice-enabled artificial intelligence agents purpose-built for healthcare, said today it has raised $5 million in seed funding to support front- and back-office operations across the industry.

The round was led by Emergence Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, CRV and Company Ventures.

The company builds AI agents capable of holding human-like phone calls with patients and health insurance companies, using safe, high-quality AI grounded in an organization’s data with guardrails. The agents can handle administrative tasks such as patient scheduling, billing, insurance benefit verification and prior authorizations.

According to Xavier de Gracia, co-founder of Prosper AI, healthcare providers face daily challenges with high administrative costs and increasing staffing shortages. A report from the American Hospital Association supports this, noting that hospitals face more than 40% of total expenses due to administrative costs, with an estimated $40 billion spent annually on costs associated with billing.

“Our mission is to unlock universal access to care by empowering healthcare organizations to achieve unprecedented efficiency with AI agents,” said de Gracia.

Prosper’s agent platform serves a broad variety of healthcare organizations, including health systems, billing companies, health technology vendors, insurers and pharmacy hubs.

The company sets itself apart by providing specialized AI for healthcare, including automated call scheduling, billing inquiry and follow-ups for patients. The company reports a 50% to 70% automation rate for inbound calls, which reduces the strain on call centers and enhances patient satisfaction.

For payors, it assists with benefits verification, prior authorizations and claims follow-ups. The company says its system has proven a 99% accuracy rate for navigating interactive voice response systems — the phone systems that “talk” to you with recordings and have you press buttons or reply out loud — to extract information.

“The voice AI agents speak like humans and can speak to patients about complex conversations to deep integrations with practice management software,” added de Gracia. “When calling insurance companies, we skip phone trees, wait on hold and speak with insurance agents on the phone to get the right information.”

Prosper has 15 customers as of today, representing over 200,000 providers, including Synergy Health Associates, a physician group with 11 locations in Texas, a hospital part of Providence and the publicly traded major medical billing company Firstsource.

The company currently employs 15 people and plans to expand its team to more than 25 by the end of the year. The funding will be used to hire new members in engineering, machine learning and sales account executive positions.

Prosper aims to expand its AI platform for healthcare. The company initially started with AI voice agents, and now these agents can also read faxes, connect with third-party systems and take action with electronic health records.

“The future is AI workers handling administrative tasks end-to-end,” said de Garcia.
