We still don’t know much about what Do.com will be, but Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff just tweeted about the service, confirming for the first time that it is in fact a Salesforce.com property. Benioff wrote: “Do.com is salesforce’s new app to get work done with anyone. Sign up to be the first to receive an invite.”
We first mentioned Do.com earlier this month when it was revealed that Salesforce.com acquired both the Do.com and Social.com domain names. I wrote at the time:
Salesforce.com has yet to announce its plans for social.com or do.com. Last week at Dreamforce the company announced that Data.com would be the new name for its contact info service Jigsaw, which it acquired last year. Social.com could be used as a new name for Radian6, the social media monitoring company that it announced earlier this year, or perhaps it could be used as a hub for all the company’s services currently being promoted under the “social enterprise” banner.
Do.com sounds like a logical fit for Manymoon, a hosted project management and collaboration service that Salesforce.com acquired earlier this year. The domain currently serves as a landing site for a presumably forthcoming productivity app simply called “Do.” Salesforce.com made no mention of Manymoon during Dreamforce. Strangely, the original announcement of the acquisition on the Manymoon blog has been deleted.
Whatever this turns out to be, one thing is clear: Salesforce.com is continuing to expand its offerings. Just last week Salesforce.com confirmed its acquisition of hosted help desk provider Assitly. Salesforce.com is juggling a lot more balls recently, which on the one hand can mean less focus on its core CRM application, but can mean better infrastructure and stability for a slew of other services being integrated into its platform. There’s no doubt about it: Salesforce.com is a giant in the Web services industry.
