The XXX Domains Have Been Unleashed
After months of much anticipation (or should I say dread?), .xxx domains are now generally available for the general public to acquire. The ICM Registry officially offers their service to the public today.
The new .xxx domain functions as a responsible alternative for sites that offer adult entertainment content and related services. All .xxx sites are appropriately labeled and McAfee Malware scanned. This means Internet users have a clear indication in advance of a site’s content, and can surf the Internet with more confidence.
“While adult entertainment is enjoyable to many adults, it is not appropriate for all audiences. We created .xxx to address the unique needs of the online adult entertainment industry. The public response has been overwhelming as consumers and the adult entertainment providers are excited about the benefits and infinite possibilities of .xxx,” said Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry.
At present, adult porn sites are the main source of malware in computers, but with this added protection from using .xxx domain, these sites will no longer be malware’s scapegoat.
Aside from the daily McAfee scan, every .xxx site will also come with a MetaCert electronic Family Safety label making it easier for users, organizations and parents to adjust their browser settings to restrict access to websites that are clearly labelled as potentially adult oriented content. Over 250 million pages of adult oriented content have already been labelled using the MetaCert technology including the .xxx domain pages.
Interested parties can check the availability of their desired domain name at www.buy.xxx, which already has one million visitors per day. Before, adult content websites were kind of taboo but now, the introduction of .xxx quickly became the most successful launch of any new sponsored top level domain. The public responded in a positive way and fueled global media interest, accompanied by global advertising campaigns including hundreds of nationally broadcast TV commercials, radio, newspapers and online ads.
All .xxx domain names will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis with prices set by the individual registrars.
