Vast and Cloudera build a unified data foundation for enterprise AI
A unified data foundation can help enterprises support growing workloads without multiplying the systems and copies needed to serve them.
Customer demand for AI infrastructure is pushing technology providers to work more closely together. Supporting large, mission-critical applications requires both scale and performance, according to Itamar Ankorion (pictured, left), head of strategic ISV alliances at Vast Data Inc.
“Vast and Cloudera have come together to help enterprises create AI factories on a unified data foundation,” he said. “The idea is to help customers leverage the data they have to build AI solutions and do it on the right infrastructure, leveraging the [graphics processing units] and doing it successfully.”
Ankorion and Jeremy Reams (right), senior director of corporate strategy at Cloudera Inc., spoke with theCUBE hosts Rebecca Knight and Paul Gillin at EVOLVE26, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed data unification, GPU efficiency and enterprise AI deployment. (* Disclosure below.)
A unified data foundation for demanding workloads
Vast’s platform lets applications access the same file through different storage protocols, reducing the need for separate copies. Combined with the data services available through Cloudera Anywhere Cloud, that architecture supports different workloads on a unified data foundation, Ankorion explained.
“GPUs at the core are accelerated compute,” he said. “They’re highly, highly parallelized and they’re expensive. What you want to make sure is that the GPU doesn’t wait on data.”
Cloudera is also expanding its AI ecosystem to simplify deployment. Joint engineering and blueprints help customers explore applications across industries, Reams explained.
“Showing that you’re driving value and ROI through these expensive Nvidia [Corp.] GPUs is incredibly important to our customers,” he said. “At the end of the day … it’s the use cases and the problems that they’re solving.”
