Cisco to Push Security Intelligence to All Products

Cisco has decided to step things up in the security department, easing the burden on IT managers and expanding its intelligence architecture threat to each and every one of its firewall products.

At a special media event hosted by Cisco at the RSA Security conference in San Francisco, Cisco has introduced plans for deploying new security technologies across all networks, including mobile.

Chris Young, senior vice president for Cisco’s Security and Government group, highlighted the company’s future plan to integrate security into the network fabric. He also explained Cisco vision of deploying security at the network level for the ever expanding critical infrastructure that runs on Cisco equipment.

Cisco’s long term goal is to leverage the power of SecureX and use it as basic architecture integration in everything that the company does. This means improving TrustSec and Identity Service Engine (ISE) to control the malware from the cloud and in a wide range of devices.

To that extent, Cisco announced TrustSec 2.1 with new security features, including new active scanning that will provide automatic identification of policies for a device based on the device identification. The company is also introducing new security group access technology features in its ISE platform to define and assign policies.

The company also unveiled a new line of ASA CX firewall appliances with customized security features, which lets administrators set security controls over user devices for more than 1,000 network security applications. The tailored made ASA CX firewall software provides granular security policies information, whether be it accessing Facebook, video, games and sharing video clips with friends etc.

“Long term, we’re going to be taking the power of SecureX, and bringing it into the Cisco core architecture, and delivering it on everything we do – our core router and switching, but also data, voice and video. We’re bringing security to all parts of the Cisco landscape,” said Young.

BYOD and mobile worker trends continue to rise, but it increases the extra work for IT administrators to continue to ensure enterprise-grade security, manageability and interoperability. Cisco is seen this as an opportunity as a component in unleashing innovation and enabling organizations to take advantage of the next wave of business growth and opportunity.
