AppMobi’s New directCanvas SDK for Android Rolls Out to Accelerate Games by 1000%
AppMobi announced Wednesday the public beta of the much-awaited new directCanvas HTML5 Acceleration SDK for Android OS at the 2012 Game Developers Conference (GDC12) in San Francisco. It will accelerate screen refresh rates by more than 10 times, supporting Android version 2.2 (Froyo) through the current version (Ice Cream Sandwich) on devices like the Amazon Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet, Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Droid Razr, HTC One X etc.
directCanvas will also accelerate sound and physics calculation. With AppMobi’s multiSound API, it will augment and speed HTML5’s built-in sounds capabilities with low latency sound playback capabilities, while the directBox2D API will accelerate in-game physics calculation by up to 4000 percent to allow complex physics-based games to handle large number of animated on-screen entities.
The first version was open sourced in November 2011 and was only available for the iOS. Now, AppMobi is inviting developers to join the beta program for Android at www.appmobie.com/dCAndroidbeta. GDC12 attendees can visit booth #2324 to receive a VIP code for the beta.
“Today appMobi is extending the proven game acceleration benefits of directCanvas beyond iOS to the Android platform,” said Sam Abadir, appMobi CTO. “With over 300 million devices in the field, and adding 850,000 new devices every day, the Android smartphone platform dominates the Apple iOS platform in size, yet we have seen very few hit Android games. We intend to change that.”
Sony Playstation is also set to open its suite to all developers in April, and the full SDK will come in sometime later. We can recall the company having a closed beta in November. Badgeville introduced its SDK for Android and iOS as well last Tuesday to make it easier for developers of native iOS and Android app to embed the elements of behavior reinforcement into their mobile games. Imagination Technologies releases its free and fully features copies of SDK which will be given away during GDC12.
