LIVE: FireEye IPO Cashes-In on NSA Hysterics

Updated with full video – see below.

Welcome to NewsDesk on SiliconANGLE TV for Tuesday August 6, 2013. FireEye, an IT security vendor, has submitted an S-1 filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, kicking off the process to raise as much as $175 million through a public offering. Here to discuss the FireEYE IPO is SiliconANGLE Contributing Editor John Casaretto.

FireEye, founded in 2004 and based in Milpitas, Calif., makes software and hardware for spotting security threats in real time on the internet, email and file systems. The company’s Web Malware Protection System — boxes that can supplement firewalls in a network — is a popular product. Anonymized information on new threats that FireEye hardware detects gets sent up to the company’s cloud, so other systems can stay up to date.

Customers include D-Wave Systems, NetApp, Sallie Mae, University of California, Berkeley, and the U.S. Department of Defense.

On today’s episode of NewsDesk with Kristin Feledy, we’ll be talking the business side of cybersecurity with our very own security expert, John Casaretto. On the show, we’ll be sure to ask him all about the offering, including whether or not the $175 million mark is even attainable by the same company that only reported $83.3 Million in revenue over last year’s $35.8 million net loss.

We will also be sure to ask him the really important questions, like what he thinks about the timing of the IPO, and how it correlates with the heightened state of cybersecurity – especially in regards to the ongoing NSA scandal.

With enough time, we might even get him to comment on the NSA’s Tor-Targeting malware, and what public companies like FireEye can do to protect citizens from the invasive and prying eyes of their own government.

There’s that, and later we’ll be talking to David Floyer of Wikibon about the future successor to flash, and that’s all today on this morning’s NewsDesk with Kristin Feledy.
