A Star Wars fan’s fantasy shopping list: Hover bikes, lightsabers, landspeeders, more
The seventh episode in the epic Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, premieres in Los Angeles on December 14th and it seems if fans had their way they’d arrive at the event riding a hover bike or landspeeder while toting a lightsaber.
A recent survey by Harris Poll, conducted on behalf of myDevices, an Internet of Things (IoT) middleware and application solution provider, found that 78 percent of Americans who have watched Star Wars dream of owning the futuristic tech and gadgets made famous by the likes of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and other assorted characters from the series.
Among the most coveted Star Wars tech are hover bikes with 32 percent of American fans saying they’d like to own one, followed closely by lightsabers at 31 percent and landspeeders at 26 percent.
Unsurprisingly, it is predominantly men and younger adult Star Wars fans who covet tech from the series with 96 percent of 18 to 34-year-old men and 87 percent of 18 to 34-year-old women saying they want to own some of these gadgets.
Given that the survey results focus on Americans who have seen Star Wars and are therefore likely to be fans, it is also no big surprise that the percentage of older respondents who covet tech from the series don’t drop that much at all:
- 88 percent of 35 to 44-year-old men and 76 percent of 35 to 44-year-old women.
- 89 percent of 45 to 54-year-old men and 62 percent of 45 to 54-year-old women.
- 75 percent of 55 to 54-year-old men and 68 percent of 55 to 64-year-old women.
It also seems that Star Wars fans don’t retire, especially female fans, with 58 percent of women over 65 saying they want tech from Star Wars versus 52 percent of men in the same age group.
When American Star Wars fans were asked what piece of futuristic tech from the series they want most, here’s how they responded:
- 32 percent want a hover bike,
- 31 percent (36 percent of men, 26 percent of women) want a lightsaber,
- 26 percent want to zip around on landspeeder,
- 24 percent want hologram messages,
- 23 percent would like a Droid,
- 22 percent (28 percent men, 15 percent women) want to travel at the speed of light with hyperdrive technology,
- 14 percent want a Galaxy Gun, 11 percent want a wrist rocket, and 9 percent want their very own Death Star.
