Fancy dinner or Netflix and chill this Valentine’s Day? According to one survey, the answer to that may be influenced by which state you live in or how long you’ve been in a relationship.
According to a survey conducted by Finder.com, a personal finance comparison and education site, the state where people live can say a lot about how much they will be spending for their partner on Hearts’ Day. The survey was conducted on over 3,000 Americans, revealing some very interesting data points on the geography of love.
On average, Americans spend $91 on Valentine’s Day and that includes a gift and an evening’s experience, which is probably dining out. But some states value Valentine’s more than others as the survey revealed that respondents in Kansas spent the most on their partners with an average tab of $117. The next big spenders are residents of Nevada at $112, followed by Idaho at $111, North Dakota $108, Hawaii $102, Arkansas $93, Virginia $87, Florida $83, California and South Carolina $82.
As for the states that spend the least for their partners, the list includes New Hampshire with an average spending amount of $31, and South Dakota, Delaware, Maine, Vermont, Wyoming and Kentucky all with an average spending amount of $36.
According to the survey, those who are in 2 to 5 year relationships tend to get the highest valued gifts while married couples are more likely to not buy gifts at all. The survey also revealed that 30 percent of the respondents have hidden their purchases from their partners (hopefully to add an element of surprise for the special day).
The survey also answers the question as to which gender puts more effort into Valentine’s Day. According to the survey, more men are still buying gifts for their partners at 69 percent compared to the 56 percent of women who choose to surprise their partners with a purchasable gift. On the average, men spend $79 on Valentine’s gifts while women on the average spend only $52.
About 34 percent of Americans plan to celebrate this special day by going to a restaurant. Taking their partner to a romantic dinner or lunch on February 14 is the official favorite activity of Americans. But Netflix and Chill is a close second favorite activity for 27 percent of respondents on Valentine’s Day.
So what will you guys be doing this year? A fancy dinner or just Netflix and chill?
THANK YOU
