Riot permanently bans well known toxic League of Legends streamer

Riot Games has no problem handing out bans to League of Legends players who engage in toxic behavior, but for well known livestreamer Tyler1, the studio is taking things a step further by issuing a lifetime ban with the promise that if he makes any new accounts, they will be instantly banned as well.

Here’s the full verdict from Riot:

“Hey all,

“Instant Feedback catches the most unsportsmanlike players in League, but some people go out of their way to continue ruining games for the community. Because of a well-documented history of account bans for verbal abuse, intentional feeding, as well as account sharing/purchasing, evasion of sportsmanship systems, and player harassment, we will not allow Tyler1 to hold a League of Legends account, indefinitely. Any account definitively used by him will be banned immediately upon identification.

“We know we’re not perfect, and this dragged on too long, but we want you to know when the rare player comes along who’s a genuine jerk, we’ve still got your back.”

Tyler1 responds

Tyler1 has since responded to Riot’s decision in a video posted to YouTube.

“My issue with [the ban] is I feel like Riot should have banned me a lot sooner if they were going to,” he said after admitting that the studio went easy on him in its announcement about his ban.

Tyler1 explained that he believed Riot’s decision was based more on his popularity as a streamer rather than the actual severity of his behavior.

“I was getting like 10k viewers a stream and [was] top of League forums,” he said. “Riot did not want me to be the top lead streamer with toxic gameplay.”

According to Tyler1, he is more concerned about being banned from Twitch than being banned from League of Legends, which is his primary reason for not streaming the game anymore. Tyler1 reached out to Twitch to see if he would be allowed to stream the game if he is coaching someone else rather than playing, but Twitch has yet to respond.
