Infinidat’s new innovation lab doubles as datacenter playground | #theCUBE
What happens when a company puts together an innovation lab, a briefing center and a product showcase? Well, when Infinidat did just that in Waltham, Mass., it created a veritable magnet for customers, channel partners and collaborators from across North America. This is according to the company’s Chief Marketing Officer Randy Arseneau.
Arseneau spoke to Stu Miniman (@stu), host of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, last month at the Infinidat Waltham Ribbon Cutting in Waltham. Arseneau said the company’s aim was to create a space for organic experimentation and collaboration.
“You see lots of areas where people can just huddle informally and work together, and come out of their offices and interact with each other,” he said.
The facility also has a lab/data center, which can accommodate up to 15 of Infinidat’s InfiniBox storage arrays. “We wanted to have a showcase where we could actually physically show the system,” Arseneau stated.
“[InfiniBox is] a software product, but of course it’s delivered in an appliance form factor, so it was important for us to have that kind of tactile experience for customers,” Arseneau stated.
Multi-media storage solution
Arseneau said the company is leading the way in architecture-first storage systems, adding that media-centric thinking is outmoded.
“We use flash; we also use DRAM; we also use spinning disk,” he said, emphasizing that all forms are utilized to their maximum potential depending on a customer’s needs. “We don’t try to force-fit flash, for instance, to be a primary storage tier in an architecture that was designed for spinning disks 25 years ago,” he said.
