Splunk intros new monitoring tool for AWS cloud users
Operational intelligence company Splunk Inc. is boosting its cloud analytics capabilities with the launch of a new Splunk Insights for AWS Cloud Monitoring service.
Splunk is betting on enterprises’ need for sophisticated monitoring tools to help them more easily facilitate their move to Amazon Web Services Inc.’s cloud. It points out that its new service is necessary because many enterprises find that migrating to and running workloads in the cloud isn’t as easy as they’d hoped. As a result, many companies quickly find they’re unable to achieve the anticipated cost benefits, performance, security and availability that cloud-based applications promise.
The new product is designed to help companies realize these benefits by providing better insights around the operational efficiency, cost management and security aspects of their cloud deployments, Splunk said. It uses an analytics-based approach to provide visibility into customer’s AWS infrastructure, offering real-time insights into things like configuration, health, performance, security and spending.
Splunk reckons that customers can use Splunk Insights for AWS Cloud Monitoring to more accurately predict their usage, thereby optimizing their infrastructure for maximum cost effectiveness. The new service is deployed via the AWS Marketplace, and its key differentiator is that it can correlate AWS data with that from other sources, something that no other AWS monitoring tool can currently do.
“Splunk Insights can index, correlate, search, and visualize multiple data sources beyond just AWS data, across hybrid environments and in real-time to derive maximum value, and the predictive analytics which power the operational, security, and economic insights that come out-of-box in the solution,” said Rick Fitz, senior vice president of IT Markets at Splunk.
Splunk Enterprise users might be wondering what all the fuss is about, considering that the company’s flagship platform also provides AWS Monitoring as one of its many capabilities. But Fitz said Splunk Insights for AWS Cloud Monitoring was aimed specifically at AWS customers rather than its own existing users.
“It is a cost-effective and low-friction way for AWS customers to access the magic of Splunk to monitor and maintain their AWS environments with deep, real-time insights,” he said.
The company said the new offering integrates “out-of-the-box” with a host of AWS services, including Amazon CloudWatch, AWS CloudTrail and AWS Billing.
Splunk said Splunk Insights for AWS Cloud Monitoring is available now, with pricing starting at $7,500 per year.
