Apple confirms major iPhone reveal for Sept. 12
Apple Inc. has sent out an invitation to the media saying “let’s meet at our place” for what is expected to be the company’s big iPhone 8 reveal on Sept. 12, confirming rumors that circulated earlier this week.
Celebrating 10 years of Apple’s revolutionary smartphone line, the new iPhone 8 is expected to be one of the biggest redesigns in the device’s history. Some of the new features rumored to be coming to the new iPhone 8 include an edge-to-edge display, new face recognition technology, and wireless charging using the Qi standard. Some reports suggest that the wireless charging feature may be disabled at the software level at launch, but will be unlocked by a future iOS update.
The iPhone 8 will also reportedly sport a vertically aligned rear camera, which will offer a smart capture feature that will be able to adjust settings for brightness, color and so on in real time based on the subject the user is trying to photograph or video.
According to a recent report by KGI Securities, the iPhone 8 will launch with three color options, including silver, black and gold, and the company says this also applies to the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus.
In addition to the iPhone 8, Apple will likely also reveal more details about its upcoming HomePod speaker, which is set to launch later this year, and there may also be new information about other Apple products such as the iMac Pro or even a yet-to-be-announced product.
The iPhone 8 event will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific time in the Steve Jobs Theater at the new Apple Park campus, which opened in Cupertino in April. This will be Apple’s first event at the theater, which has yet to be officially unveiled to the public.
Apple has not officially announced any livestream plans for the iPhone 8 event, but the company has previously streamed its announcements to iOS devices, as well as the Safari and Microsoft Edge web browsers.
Apple’s shares set a new all-time high of $164 a share today.
