Getting out of hock: Dell EMC tailors solutions for absorbing the ‘tech debt’

With a wide range of technologies for the enterprise, Dell EMC is seeking to meet customer needs across the spectrum, from a basic “do-it-yourself” hardware infrastructure to the fully integrated, pre-configured VxRail hyperconverged appliance. The company’s intent is to help manage transitions in enterprise computing by offering products to customers that instill confidence rather than regret or doubt, according to Juan Vega (pictured), marketing director of enterprise solutions at Dell EMC.

“It’s about helping them have confidence that as they move into this transition, they’re not having to deal with all the vagaries of mismatched hardware and software incompatibilities. We call it absorbing their tech debt,” Vega said.

Vega stopped by theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, and spoke with co-hosts John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante) during VMworld 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They discussed Dell EMC’s Ready Nodes and Ready Bundles offerings, their placement in the information technology structure and meeting customer demand for VMware Inc.’s vSAN software-defined storage platform. (* Disclosure below.)

Products for the middle zone

Dell EMC is finding there’s a market for products that occupy a “middle zone” between the hardware level and a fully integrated infrastructure, powered by offerings such as VMware’s VxRail or VxRack. To fill that gap, Dell EMC has released Ready Nodes and Ready Bundles to support virtualized environments.

“There’s a relationship between the virtualization layer and the hardware that has to be maintained,” Vega explained. “Ready Nodes and Ready Bundles sit between those two.”

With six different hardware platforms offering 15 different configurations, Dell EMC is riding a wave of customer interest in vSAN.

“All of those can be delivered in a way that they fit seamlessly into a data center environment that can deploy software-designed storage,” Vega said. “Dell has always brought strong optimization to any customer we work with.”
