Tech solutions company gets ‘do-over’ with proven service platform

Out-of-the-box implementation, smooth integration, automation, increased maturity in the security space and single platform efficiency are just some of the ways in which ServiceNow Inc. is helping companies streamline operations and save time and money, according to Bart Murphy (pictured), the former chief technical officer of York Risk Services Group and president of CareWorks Tech.

Murphy implemented the ServiceNow platform with tech solutions company CareWorks and, at the time of this interview, was in the process of rebuilding on a larger scale with parent company York Risk Services. Making a fresh start with a known platform, but with a newer release and on a larger scale, gives the opportunity for a do-over, he said.

“We’re taking what we built with CareWorks and learning what did well and not well,” he said.

Murphy spoke with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, earlier this year at the ServiceNow Knowledge17 event in Orlando, Florida, about his ServiceNow experiences. (* Disclosure below.)

Customization no longer needed

Murphy has been impressed with how little customization is required with the platform compared to past releases, and he advised others to configure out of the box as much as possible to benefit from the maturity of the platform.

York Risk Services plans to take full advantage of the platform’s capabilities. “One of our core values is to be a data-driven, decision-making company, and you can’t improve what you can’t measure,” he said.

Describing the impact of moving onto one platform with ServiceNow, he added: “It’s going to be a game changer for us, and we’re going to need that.”

Murphy also discussed his dual role with both companies, including the change he has experienced in the requirements and responsibilities of the positions, and his vision of a single person accountable for operations, development and innovation to reduce the risk of rogue or shadow information technology. He concluded by saying that recognizing the products that are most beneficial to your business and implementing them at the right time is more important than having the newest and hottest innovations.
