Watch live: Open-sourcing security knowledge at CyberConnect 2017
Kicking off today, SiliconANGLE is at CyberConnect 2017, taking place in New York City, with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE.
(* Disclosure below.) With the constant increase of data breaches and the need for there to be better collaboration between organizations, identity and access management, provider Centrify Corp. is presenting the inaugural CyberConnect event.
John Furrier, co-founder of SiliconANGLE Media and co-host of theCUBE, spoke to the company’s founder and CEO Tom Kemp of what we can expect from CyberConnect 2017. CyberConnect will center on “business-focused discussions with C-level people discussing the issues around security” and what “higher-level strategies need to be deployed to make their organizations more secure,” Kemp said.
Less than 50 percent of global information technology professionals are confident they have the ability to prevent, detect and resolve data breaches, according to recent research from Ponemon Institute, commissioned by Centrify. Kemp wants CyberConnect to open up communication, together with the sharing and “open-sourcing of knowledge” from chief information security officers from various industries, to help prevent future breaches.
Trends that we can expect to see coming out of CyberConnect include how artificial intelligence and machine learning can be leveraged to protect organizations, as well as how companies can make themselves more secure as they move into the cloud, according to Kemp.
Worldwide spending on information security is expected to grow to $93 billion in 2018, according to Gartner Inc. “Rising awareness among CEOs and boards of directors about the business impact of security incidents and an evolving regulatory landscape have led to continued spending on security products and services,” said Sid Deshpande, principal research analyst at Gartner.
With representation from government, both from the U.S. and Europe, large business and vendors, noteworthy keynote speakers at CyberConnect include Tom Kemp; Keith B. Alexander, retired general and former director of the National Security Agency; Edna Conway, chief security officer, global value chain at Cisco Systems Inc.; Jim Routh, chief security officer at Aetna Inc.; and Pete Naumovski, chief information security officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
Other guest speakers include Jason Witty, chief information security officer at U.S. Bank (a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp); James Scott, senior fellow and co-founder of Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology; Michael Molinaro, chief information security officer at Bio-Reference Laboratories Inc.; and Scott Ward, solutions architect at Amazon Web Services Inc.
