Nutanix aims to rebrand as complete cloud solution

As competition for the cloud computing market heats up, companies look to expand their value propositions by offering products that address more of the technology stack. Enterprise computing company Nutanix Inc., known for it’s strength in hyperconverged infrastructure, aims to grabs more market share by branding as a complete enterprise cloud company rather than an infrastructure solution.

“I think it’s interesting to look at where they’ve come from in terms of what they used to describe themselves as, which was the hyperconvergence company. And they’re not that; now they’re the enterprise cloud company,” said Adrian Bridgwater (pictured), a journalist at Forbes, covering enterprise software development.

Bridgwater spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Nutanix .NEXT EU conference in Nice, France. They discussed Nutanix’s rebranding and positioning as a complete cloud solution. (* Disclosure below.)

Repositioned and Rebranded

The messaging at the conference has clearly indicated Nutanix’s shift away from a pure infrastructure play to a more holistic cloud solution. The company’s beachhead in HCI has been a successful launching point for taking a strong market position as a true enterprise cloud company, according to Bridgwater.

“I think that they’re total house, and their shop is looking fairly complete. So … it’s validated. I think that’s their market proposition. It’s not a term they use, but I think that they’ve got the credibility and the validation for what they’re trying to go to market with,” Bridgwater said.

The timing for this refocus on branding as a complete cloud solution seems to be right in line with the rest of the market adoption. Customers are just starting to look at truly cloud-native solutions for their applications rather than on-premises or hybrid architectures, according to Bridgwater.

“It’s probably now the point where they’re starting to ask, ‘Well, at what point would we use Nutanix in a total implementation?’” Bridgewater said.
