With two partnerships, Google brings blockchain technology to the cloud

Google LLC is embracing blockchain technology announcing two partnerships that will deliver distributed digital ledger technology to Google Cloud.

The first partnership with Digital Asset Holdings LLC will see the startup’s blockchain platform and developer tools made available on the Google Cloud Platform.

Although Google Cloud has previously supported blockchain technologies, the deal will see developers now having access to a comprehensive suite of tools and services to build, test and deploy distributed ledger applications on-demand within Google Cloud itself without having to configure the underlying platform.

“We’re partnering with Google Cloud to provide developers with a full stack solution so they can unleash the potential for web-paced innovation in blockchain,” Digital Asset Chief Executive Officer Blythe Masters said in a statement. “This will reduce the technical barriers to DLT application development by delivering our advanced distributed ledger platform and modeling language to Google Cloud.”

In addition, Google Cloud has joined as a participant in the private beta test of Digital Asset’s developer program which offers a software development kit for Digital Asset Modeling Language, a new smart contract language designed specifically for use in DLT.

The second partnership is with Ethereum enterprise blockchain startup BlockApps Inc. and sees BlockApps STRATO, a rapid-deployment blockchain-as-a-service solution platform for enterprises made available on the Google Cloud.

BlockApps STRATO is said to allow enterprises to launch a blockchain node that provides a complete development and deployment experience out of the box. STRATO offers a RESTful API that developers can use to build and test their blockchain applications without manually assembling IDEs, compilers, wallets or other APIs.

“Customers can now explore ways they might use DLT frameworks on [Google Cloud Platform] with launch partners including Digital Asset and BlockApps, and try open-source integrations for Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum later this year in our GCP Marketplace,” Google said in a blog post.

The announcement was made ahead of the Google Cloud Next ’18 conference, which is due to kick off in San Francisco Tuesday.
