Google LLC’s latest phone release, the Pixel 3, now has a date: Oct. 9.

The third incarnation of Google’s Pixel lineup, built by the mobile arm of HTC Corp., which Google partially acquired in 2017, will likely come in two versions: the base Pixel 3 and a larger XL version a notch at the top like the iPhone X’s.

According to “leaks” and reports, both phones will offer a dual front-facing camera but a single rear camera, the opposite of just about every other flagship phone currently on the market.

The latest “leak” comes via an alleged Pixel 3 XL left in a Lyft Inc. vehicle. Android Police reported last week that a Lyft driver claimed to have found the phone in the back of his car but took a few photos before eventually returning the phone to its owner.

The pictures show a large phone with a dual front-facing camera and, to the disgust of some, a significantly large notch. Although there’s no solid confirmation that the pictures show a Pixel 3 XL, they certainly fits the description of the phone in previous leaks.

As reported in August, the Pixel is expected to be shipped with USB C headphones. The previous Pixel model shipped with no headphones at all, with users given the option to buy Google’s expensive wireless Pixel Buds.

Under the hood, the Pixel 3 XL is expected to ship with Android 9 and an eight-core Qualcomm Inc. processor, more than likely a Snapdragon 845 along with an Adreno 630 graphics processing unit. Screen resolution is expected to come in at 1440 by 2960 with a density of 494 pixels per inch, not quite Samsung Galaxy-level but close.

Unconfirmed is support for wireless charging and a device described as a “Pixel Stand,” a wireless charging dock that also turns the phone’s screen into a Smart Display for Google Assistant.

While long favored in the tech community, Pixel phones haven’t had impressive sales. The company has never formally revealed the number of units it ships, but it’s believed that 3.9 million devices were sold last year. As The Verge pointed out, that’s one week of Apple Inc. iPhone sales.
