Opsource Updates Cloud Offering, Continues Enterprise & Channel Push

image Today cloud and infrastructure service provider Opsource continues to evolve their cloud offering with the introduction of a handful of new features that should help greatly fuel future enterprise adoption.

All of these updates are geared towards those potential enterprise customers that might be thinking about adopting a cloud platform for their needs but have been holding back because of what they deem as a certain lack of control and transparency.

First, Opsource is extending their role and security model to allow for primary and secondary or sub administrator roles to be defined.  On top of this access control layer they are introducing the next version of their billing and auditing support detailed on a per user, per month basis.  This will provide a level of transparency and detail into not only what resources is the organization consuming/utilizing but also down to the user level.  This sort of fine grained control access will allow companies to feel at ease that they can give some of their users the feel of a "cloud playground", with self service and management capabilities, while maintaining control and visibility.

Next Opsource is announcing that they are now providing a load balancer service as part of their cloud offering and are using physical gear to deliver this service.  This dovetails nicely with their approach to provide enterprises with a service that is backed by tools/solutions that are "familiar".  They are currently delivering their cloud backed by an enterprise stack of VMware as their hypervisor (but not vCloud Express), EMC for storage, and Cisco for networking gear.

With these announcements Opsource is pushing their cloud offering to market with a continued two pronged approach.

One part is to focus on building out an offering that is geared towards those enterprises that are looking to adopt cloud computing services but have yet to take the plunge do to security and control concerns.

The other part to their strategy is to aggressively build out their channel strategy and become the go-to service provider for ISV’s and VAR’s who are looking to rep a cloud solution to their customer based in a reseller and private label manner.

As we saw last week with Carpathia Hosting’s new cloud release we will continue to see providers such as Opsource and the like continue to differentiate and evolve their offering with a focus on control, transparency and value add service delivery.
