

There’s been a dramatic increase in mobile tweeting by Twitter users over the past few weeks. This is deemed an important figure with a swell of 27%, from 106 million to 145 million, ever since Twitter has constantly exerted efforts in providing their users more clients in some of the most widely used platforms. From Evan Williams’ blog, CEO of Twitter:
“We quickly understood that we were doing users a disservice by not having a great client on each of the major mobile platform, so, we took a similar approach with Twitter for BlackBerry and Twitter for Android.”
Though it has not totally ousted the website interaction with 78% Twitter user access, they were able to the make contact easier with the addition of clients. 14% uses mobile.twitter.com and 8% uses SMS option. This is followed by the iPhone at 8% and Blackberry at 7%.
This is good news for Twitter, as it reclaims its mobile user base, though a number of third party Twitter developers continue with their own efforts towards feature-rich Twitter tools. Twitter has been making a couple other tweaks lately, affecting third party mobile apps. The OAuth update from earlier this month temporarily limited some users around their favorite mobile apps, driving many of them to pull up the mobile Twitter website or app instead.
Desktop Twitter apps have gained a lot of attention lately, with an update from Tweetdeck and a new launch from Seesmic. Another notable trend for third party Twitter developers is the expansion of their apps beyond the realms of Twitter. This is something we’re seeing for desktop and mobile apps alike.
