Creator of YouTube Instant Gets Gig at YouTube, of All Places

You don’t really have to sing or do quirky things in front of the webcam to gain instant popularity on Youtube. Just recently, the 19-year old  Feross Aboukhadijeh from Standford University became an instant celebrity on the internet after he launched his YouTube Instant site. Feross is also connected to Facebook as a software engineer intern.

YouTube instant is real-time YouTube video surfing engine. This amazing idea is also referred to as “novelty toy” and a “completely excellent way to waste 15 minutes.”Pretty cool label, huh? It got 1 million visitors on Monday– which is 10 days prior to launching, 28,000 Facebook Likes, 20,000 tweets and 14,000 Stumbles. It also went up to the pages of NY Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, and many more.

“It started out as a bet with my roommate, Jake Becker, ” says Aboukhadijehwhen asked how he got himself into working YouTube Instant. “I bet him I could build real-time YouTube search in less than an hour. ” He lost the bet because it took him two hours to finish the website and another hour to do the touches.  But the pay off is really great as it launched him to an instant career.

Feross was offered a job by YouTube CEO Chad Hurley, which he accepted. He will continue going to Stanford while working for YouTube, and will also finish out his Facebook internship. Along with the news of his new role at YouTube, Feross has also updated YouTube Instant with a handful of features. See here.
