Developers Wish for FroYo Unity, as Google Preps the Next Version

As ShowNearny developer Jose D. Nidhin says, there is apparently no platform unity between the now somewhat fragmented Android and the upcoming Chrome OS that’s expected to premier later this year; both in terms of app developing and market.  While a developer would use Java, C and C++ for an Android app, it is reported that the most distinctive languages for the cloud-based web apps supporting Chrome OS will be HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

“The current lack of affiliation between Google’s Android mobile operating system (OS) and its Web-based Chrome OS, particularly in the different coding languages used to develop apps for the two platforms, will cause “difficulties” for developers once the latter platform is launched later this year.”

It’s been a major point of contention, with Steve Jobs making assumptions about the various hoops an Android developer must jump through.

On top of this, Google hasn’t been too eager to provide any developer guidance around its pioneering new OS, and Android still remains quite fragmented after numerous updates across supporting devices, as well as some notably different traits – something Microsoft was keen to prevent with Windows Phone 7.  Perhaps because of the difference between the two markets, Google is intentionally not making it easier for Android developers to adapt to Chrome OS.

In addition to a petite degree of Android unity, there is one other thing developers and users alike will need to prepare for. Google is getting ready to launch Android 3.0, but as the tablet incompatible and fragmented FroYo has not even settled in, they are leaving a lot of people behind. Android is predicted to take over almost half the mobile market within 5 years. That figure however can easily shrink yet.
