Dell Outstrips HP in China Computer Sales

image Multinational information technology company Dell Inc. takes a step ahead of rival HP in China’s personal-computer market.

“We aspire to continue to grow successfully here,” said the company’s president of enterprise division Steve Schuckenbrock at a briefing in Hong Kong today.

According to research firm IDC, Dell occupies 9% of China’s 3rd quarter computer-sales market while HP stands at 8.2%. Lenovo, the company who holds the biggest share in China increased its revenue for the quarter and closed at 28.7%. Dell dominates  Wal-Mart Stores in China and is spreading into smaller cities as well.

Moreover, they are up to increasing their revenue in China by competing with HP and IBM in computer services, said Dell Vice President in the China Division Alex Yung. This is what the acquisition of Perot Systems Corp. and BearingPoint Inc. is all about. Dell also plans on building a data center while expanding production and operation in Chengdu. The company expects over $100 billion revenue over the next 10 years as it conquers its 2nd largest market.

Dell ranks 3rd in PC shipments worldwide only next to HP and Taiwan’s Acer, IDC added.

The global market is ripe for domination, and it’s an arena that mimicks a lot of what goes on between these rivals on their home turf.  The Chinese market is of particular interest for Dell and HP, and both companies are extending offices and plants in surrounding areas to meet international demand.
