Coming Soon to your iPad: iOS 4.2 Hits the Developer’s Block

Finally, apple has released the iOS 4.2. Currently, available only to developers, it would soon reach the masses. The public release might be tomorrow or some time later in the week. The iOS 4.2 would specially please iPad users.

With the update, iPad users would get amazing new features as folders, multitasking, email, enterprose support and international support. Here a brief mention of the new features as listed on PC World.

Folders. […] Folders will let users group iPad apps in whatever way makes the most sense to them to make them easier to locate and use.

Multitasking. The value of multitasking on the much smaller iPhone display is questionable, but on the iPad it will greatly enhance productivity. The iPad can replace notebooks and netbooks as a mobile computing platform in a variety of scenarios, but the lack of multitasking has limited its effectiveness. Users need to be able to switch between researching information on the Web, reviewing data from a spreadsheet, and writing a report without having to start fresh each time they switch.

E-mail. The unified Inbox in iOS 4.2 makes it significantly more efficient for users that maintain multiple e-mail accounts. Rather than having to manually switch back and forth between accounts, users can see all of the e-mail messages in one place. iOS 4.2 can also group e-mail messages based on the conversation thread–making it easier to follow an e-mail discussion over time.

Enterprise Support. […] iOS 4.2 introduces new security features, device management tools, and integration that help IT admins maintain and protect the tablets within a business networking environment.

International Support. […] iOS 4.2 adds a variety of international keyboard and dictionary options that will make the tablet more valuable as a business tool around the world for non English-speaking users.

These features make the iPad more useful in the business sphere. The main target market for the iPad is the user segment utilizing it for home entertainment purposes. But the new features shall allow the technology product to be used in new ways.

It’s a big move for Apple, and one that’s deemed necessary but not exceptionally so.  As thrilled as we are about the iPad updates, it’s also clear that Apple is still ahead of the game when it comes to tablets.  The release still comes at a great time, with the holiday shopping season in full effect.  It’s going to be a busy season for all the elves at mobile manufacturing companies, with every major platform, including Windows Phone 7, releasing something special in the coming weeks.
