Women Actually Shaping the Future of Online Retail: MyShape Gets $5.5M

A leading personalized shopping website for women’s apparel, MyShape today announced that it raised $5.5 million funding from a line up investors including Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Tenaya Capital and Draper Fisher Jurvetson Growth Fund. Using the website’s ShapeMatch technology, it analyzes ndividual body measurements, shape, fit and style to match with their existing items.

The company is flaunting a new look for its website with value-added and enriched navigation to get even more personalized. It also  added more designer partners.

“MyShape has the opportunity to fundamentally change the way women shop for clothing by eradicating size in favor of shape and matching women with clothes that fit and flatter from a broad spectrum of designers,” said MyShape CEO Mercedes De Luca.

“As more styles and brands of clothing become available on the web, the challenge to an individual shopper in finding relevant choices grows. MyShape simplifies the shopping experience by showing women their own individually personalized view of the universe of apparel. Further, MyShape has begun to partner with innovative and emerging designers, thereby introducing its members to a broader array of fashion styles.”

Registration to the site entails a profile that takes in the customer’s measurements, fit and style, which MyShape use as a basis for the items they recommend to the customer’s Personal Shop. It also has a “Style Tuner” technology that enables women to rate hundreds of styles while gathering data to improve future recommendations. Also an addition is a “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down” feature for shoppers to rate thousands of products across the website.

New designer partners who decided to join MyShape are: eBags (bags & luggage), Her Room (lingerie), Rafaella (better women’s sportswear), Farinaz (classic shirts), La Grande Dame (designer plus size clothing), Tehama (golf apparel), Julianna Rae (sleepwear, intimates and loungewear), Altitude Fasique (tall women’s business apparel), Biatta (intimates), Essendi (contemporary sportswear), and Jonano (eco-chic clothing).

Women and retail are driving a great deal of commerce that changes hand on the web. Services geared towards women are going to be big money makers in the next few years, and beyond. Moreover, the mobile market is already being heavily influenced by women, who are demanding services, Millenial Media reports.
