EMC Acquires Bus-Tech, Strengthens Backup Recovery Systems

EMC  has successfully acquired Bus-Tech, a Massachusetts-based VTL solutions provider.  Bus-Tech was already a member of EMC Select Partner Program since 2004 and an EMC OEM Partner since March, 2008. This acquisition by EMC  is going to further strengthen the position of the company, enhancing solutions for backup and recovery, mainframe batch recovery, disaster recovery and data archiving applications.image

Frank Slootman, President of EMC’s Backup Recovery Systems division, said, “Mainframe users are not immune to the challenges with tape when it comes to backup and recovery. In a few short years, the application of data deduplication and disk-based storage has literally transformed the backup market. The addition of Bus-Tech will enable us to deliver a suite of next-generation mainframe backup products that are highly differentiated in terms of performance, integration and supportability.”

Although the acquisition will not have any material impact on the EMC GAAP and non-GAAP EPS for 2010 fiscal year, it will open up the new growth avenues for both companies. Al Brandt, President of Bus-Tech is very much hopeful with this collaboration and looks forward for a productive future with EMC Corporation. This acquisition is expected to create a significant market opportunity for mainframe tape storage making it around $2.5 billion by 2014.

Besides this deal, EMC is also trying out to acquire Isilon Systems, but it is not coming to an end. The major issue coming around is price even though the deal is favorable for both sides.

In other EMC news, the company continues to build on existing partnerships through the VCE Coalition by partnering with Cisco. The investments for this partnership has been done by VMWare and Intel.
