Motorola Mobility Expands Software Portfolio, Acquires 4Home

Motorola Mobility, a segment of Motorola Inc.,  has inked a deal for the acquisition of 4Home,  an acclaimed developer of original and software services platforms that provide solutions on predicaments between consumer and devices delivering specific services and information.

The move is keenly focused on boosting Motorola’s efforts in providing and introducing continuous improvements on how the world connects, and software is a key entrant towards that goal. In an interview following the announcement of the acquisition, Dan Moloney, President of Motorola Mobility mentioned key points on how 4Home will propel the organization’s mission and vision, saying,

“at Motorola Mobility, we continue to invest in our converged experiences portfolio, and 4Home provides a wealth of services and software applications that offer consumers control and information for their digital lives. The addition of the 4Home portfolio helps expand our vision of converged experiences in the home and beyond.”

Motorola Mobility is looking to expand beyond just manufacturing in multiple realms, and they all tie back in to align with Motorola’s larger picture, enhancing its strong suite of products at this point.  They acquired Aloqa, a location-based search tool that operates under the same principle of Where, which recently received a major update on the recommendation and discovery side of things.

They are also looking towards monetizing their software portfolio.  Motorola is a backer of BlackArrow, and this collaboration is targeting to develop set-top boxes, mobile and cloud-based, hosted video services and IP video delivery.

Terms and conditions that cover the agreement between Motorola Mobility and 4Home were not yet disclosed to the public. The deal is set to be complete and closed before the end of 2011.
