Gmail Improves Priority Inbox App and Compose for Android

Google is living up to the promise of a better performance in response to piles of feedback after launching Gmail in Android Market two months ago.

“When we first released Gmail in Android Market back in September, we said that you’d be getting new stuff faster, and we meant it. After getting thousands of comments on that release, we made a bunch of updates based on your feedback and today we’re launching Gmail for Android 2.3.2,” said Google.

So here are the hottest updates that the search giant made for Gmail running on Android:

First off is the improved support for Priority Inbox, an app preferred by many users. You can now view your most important messages in your inbox, both read and unread, as well as archive, delete of mark them unimportant. Just tap the same yellow arrow you’re accustomed to in your desktop Gmail version to shift from the ordinary inbox to your Priority Inbox. To be notified that  you’ve received mail in your Priority Inbox, just set your phone to ring or vibrate. Go to Menu>Settings>Priority Inbox.

Priority Inbox doesn’t offer all the features as the desktop version of Gmail, but this is a good initial step before they can move forward with more offerings.

Gmail also offers a better way to compose messages. This time, they made it easier to switch in between replying to the sender to replying all, as well as switch in between reply, reply all and forward while composing your response.

If you shifted from one webmail provider to Gmail, you can still send email from that address by using the “From:” feature that you configured in the desktop Gmail. You can also respond to message in-line.

This version of Gmail app also works with Froyo, so there’s no need to wait for Gingerbread. It’s also available in newer releases in most countries so check it out at the Android Market.
