LivingSocial “12 Days of Giving” Ignites Shopping With A Cause

The second annual LivingSocial’s 12Days of Giving will be more fun and charitable this year, as the company vows to donate at least 1% of every Daily Deal purchased to DonorsChoose.org and GlobalGiving. This event started last December 13th and will last until December 24th—so shopaholics from all corners of the world can enjoy what they do best and at the same time contribute to worthy causes.

Tim O’Shaughnessy, CEO and co-founder of LivingSocial explains the reason behind this project. He narrated, “We’re excited to partner with DonorsChoose.org for 12 Days of Giving. Just like our mission is to help connect exciting local merchants with new and loyal customers, DonorsChoose.org links donors with classroom projects in local communities.

“So, if you’re in Atlanta, proceeds from your purchase of a LivingSocial Deal go towards funding a project in a local Atlanta classroom. This is a fantastic way for us to share some holiday cheer while giving back and supporting local grassroots charity efforts.”

Elaine Perez, East regional director for DonorsChoose.org also share insights on how this charity project of LivingSocial spurred following and donations will aid good causes. She said,  “By engaging local customers and merchants in every market across the country, LivingSocial continues to help us bring holiday cheer to even more classrooms in need. As the 12 Days of Giving program grows – from five markets last year to now more than 120 markets in the US, UK, Australia and Ireland – we are able to generate more awareness for students and teachers nationwide at this crucial fundraising time of the year.” It was just less than 2 weeks ago when LivingSocial gets additional funding from online store giant, Amazon. The financial support is to support improvements in services rendered to more than 10 million users.

It is also interesting to note that group deal sites are being utilized for a number of initiatives right now, including holiday giving.  We noted how group-buying upswing has brought benefits for both users and the business. The deals trend is dispersing all over the world quickly, because of its endearing solution for every party involved: users and merchant partners.
