Commtouch’s Latest Buy Completes its Triple Play Antispam Advantage

Security solutions provider Commtouch recently solidified the acquisition of Authentium Command, a strategic move to round out its product offerings.  The acquisition, which got under way back in September of last year, was finalized last month along with new customer agreements related to the purchase.  Authentium Command will retain its name and branding.

“Incorporating a well-respected antivirus solution like Command into our Internet security suite has been an important element in our strategy of offering complete messaging and Web security solutions,” said Ido Hadari, Commtouch’s chief executive officer.

“Both our existing and new customers are responding positively to our consolidated offering, which drives operational simplicity and lower total cost of ownership.”

It’s certainly an important piece of the bigger puzzle regarding current security concerns which are rising all the time, around social networks, email clients, and especially the mobile realm.  As social sharing broadens web access for many, the increased transparency amongst related services opens up several opportunities for malware, Trojans, and other forms of unsolicited viruses.

Having started with an antispam product nearly a decade ago, Commtouch has watched the malware game evolve, developing tools to fight it in tandem with the industry’s evolution.  The result is a series of products and measurement mechanisms that enable entire communities to better monitor and maintain their own systems.

This data-sharing aspect of Commtouch has been integral in the company’s ability to provide value in an area that’s difficult for individual entities to gather data around, emphasizing the necessity of data market for leveraging a collective approach towards gaining new perspective on something like spam, botnets, malware and other threats.

Now that the Authentium acquisition is complete, Commtouch has an intresting Triple Play effect, addressing many needs that a company or organization may have around spam.  It includes a knowledable set of information about web activity, how malware works, and how it can be pragmatically handled.  The combo of analytics and solutions means Commtouch is in a good position to help its customers.

The dedication to data research is really key in driving Commtouch’s decisions around acquisitions and product developments, with an ability to stay “focused and keep accommodating the same kind of install base as the most important aspect of product decisions,” Asaf Greiner, VP of Products tells me.  “We’re able to identify threats of many kinds, very quickly.  It’s not a product in the sense that it makes us mony, but it’s something we’re very proud of.”
