Twitter Opens Its Heart for Social Giving

What used to be a plain social networking and microblogging venue, Twitter open its charitable doors for an evening of good cause. Tweenate and GlobalGiving will join forces and be the gateway of social giving on the 24th of February. Funds collected through this event will finance projects lined up by GlobalGiving.

For those not so familiar with Tweenate, it’s an organization that makes use of Twitter as a platform of their dedication in involving people in giving and creates the idea that sharing is simple, social and fun. By sending tweets, a person can already show his support and make donation to various groups. GlobalGiving, the architect of Tweenate is a marketplace that bridges donors worldwide for a cause.

The actual social giving will take place at Local 16 in Washington D.C. from 6PM-8PM. Those who would like to participate are asked to log on or create a Twitter account and “follow” @tweenate and @globalgiving. You will also have to register and create another account in GlobalGiving and will have to purchase $20 GlobalGiving e-card or print-at-home card and follow the account specified setup instructions.

Using Twitter is a promising avenue for drive to draw contributions to aid various organizations. GlobalGiving has been instrumental in raising millions of dollars from different donors from around the globe. What is great about the system that they are employing is that aside from branding, they are also doing something noble and good for the community— the fusion of the two defines crowdsourcing.
