Skype Video Gets Spicy with PlayStation Vita Launch

PlayStation Vita is a popular gaming console for gamers worldwide, and the introduction of Skype for PS Vita has made it even more interesting. Vita users can now make voice and video calls, and even receive calls in the background while playing games.  As the gadget also supports Wi-Fi and 3G WLAN, this makes the entire video calling experience very convenient.  If you are a PS Vita user, you can download the free Skype app from the Vita app store starting tomorrow, and start enjoying video calling and gaming while on the move.

We have been watching several updates from Skype from the past few months, such as Microsoft’s plans for a new HTML5 version of Skype to run in web browsers.  This particular development was gleaned from a job posting on Microsoft’s website, looking to hire developers and software engineers in London and Prague with “real world experience developing HTML5 UI’s including rich interaction based on JavaScript,” describing a “Skype for Browsers” project.

Skype has also officially released its app for the Windows Phone OS in the Windows Phone Marketplace after several months in beta. The Skype application for Windows Phone is available in 18 languages on 4G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks. Ever since the beta version of this app was launched, Skype’s added more features like video calling in portrait mode and friend management capabilities including invite, accept invitations, block, and unblock contacts.

The Skype app for Windows Phone was tested on the following devices: Nokia Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900, HTC Titan and Radar, and Samsung Focus S and Samsung Focus Flash.  However, Skype for Microsoft’s flagship handset with Nokia, the Lumia 900, may not work correctly as it has a glitch on AT&T’s network.
