Fresh from InterOp 2012: Google SPDY, Huawei Launch

Inter Op 2012 has barely started but already new products and announcements are being released at the Las Vegas gathering. A few managed to beat the flood, sending out their releases ahead of everyone else.

The first item comes from F5 Networks. The vendor upgraded the Application Delivery Optimization functionality of its BIG-IP ADC with the addition Google’s SPDY. The latter is a protocol the search giant developed to reduce the amount of latency occurring when mobile apps send data over HTTP, and F5 claims its application delivery controller is the first platform that supports it.

Here’s an official quote curtsey of TechTarget:

“With our BIG-IP application-delivery controller enabled with SPDY, our users can make one connection to a Web site instead of 30. That’s a pretty big deal,” said Patrick McFadin, director of systems and architecture at Hobsons, a Software as a Service provider for colleges and universities.”

The second development comes from Huawei, which is out to get itself – or rather its latest product – a new title or three. The new CloudEngine 12800  data center core switch series supposedly delivers the highest performance and capacity in the industry. Switching capacity is capped at 48 terabytes per second, 2 Tbps per slot, and 100GE, 40GE, 10GE interfaces are all supported.

In addition Huawei is also introducing a Telepresence solution with higher-than-before quality, and a TOC 30 percent lower than the industry average. The manufacturer revealed some interesting statistics to go along with that – apparently it’s the world’s second largest provider in this area with over 2,100 such systems shipped.
