CumuLogic Reveals PaaS Building Platform for the Enterprise

CumuLogic debuted Cloud Application Platform v1.0 this week, a software solution that allows companies to build a PaaS for Java applications based on their existing virtualized environment. Application Platform can run on VMware vSphere, OpenStack and Citrix CloudStack.

“As one of the first CloudStack partners to be certified Citrix Ready, CumuLogic remains an important ecosystem partner for us. We believe that Platform-as-a-Service is a key element to driving greater cloud ROI for our customers, and we’re very pleased to see that market maturing even further with this product release from CumuLogic,” says Peder Ulander, VP of Product Marketing, Cloud Platform Group at Citrix.

CumuLogic is pitching its offering as not just a Java PaaS – it packs a lot of other functionality as well. The company says that the Application Platform doesn’t require a proprietary SDK and allows developers to use their favored IDE, while migration is greatly simplified to boost productivity even more. Migrating Java apps to a CumuLogic-powered PaaS apparently takes only minimal optimization if that, and there are a number of capabilities that can come in handy after an application has been deployed. These include self-healing, built-in monitoring and metering.

CumuLogic is jumping into the cloud scene with a new platform that targets large enterprises running Java code on their infrastructure. Sprint also announced a big push into this industry this week, but is targeting SMBs with its portfolio rather than the bigger fish.

The carrier revealed an extensive partnership with CSC earlier this week, through which it offer its U.S customers IaaS and SaaS tools, although details are scarce at the moment. What the telco did reveal was that it’s not leaving the channel out of this big cloud venture, and will be offering something for wholesalers that want to offer these cloud services to their own clients.
