Evernote and 1DollarScan Bring E-Reading to the Personal Cloud

Digital scanning service, 1DollarScan, announced their full integration with Evernote, the service that lets users save and remember everything.  The integration makes 1DollarScan the first of its kind to have full integration with a major web brand, and both companies can benefit from the partnership.

1DollarScan is a scanning service targeted towards individuals, hence the team-up with Evernote.  Whether you’re a student who wants textbooks to be digitized or authors who want their content to be made available for e-readers.  You just have to mail your printed document to 1DollarScan, where they will scan and convert to a PDF file.  After the PDF file/s is delivered, order details (e.g., book thumbnail image, book title and number books, amount paid, confirmation number, request and scan dates, etc.) and a download link of the PDF file(s) is automatically uploaded to a user’s Evernote account as a new 1DollarScan Notebook.

“We’re the first digital book scanning service to integrate with a major Web brand like Evernote,” said Hiroshi Nakano, CEO of 1DollarScan. “Our integration withEvernote will help further expand our footprint in the U.S. market for any consumer or business.  Our advanced scanning and operations software enables us to deliver the fastest, highest quality, and most affordable digital scanning service in the world.”

A New Kind of E-Reading Experience

E-reader users will get a new reading experience with the Evernote-1DollarScan deal with automatic access to digitally scanned books on the Web, or any e-Reader or mobile device (e.g., iPhone, iPad, Android, Nook, Kindle, etc.) at the best resolution and color quality.  And with the Evernote integration, remembering a quote they love or even just a simple date is a breeze because of  1DollarScan’s patented Fine Tune technology, which enables consumers to view their digitized content much faster and at optimized resolutions and color quality than other digital scanning solutions.

1DollarScan provides perks such as Anytime, Anywhere which allows readers to access and read digital content on any mobile device or laptop anytime, anywhere; Best User Experience which enables users to access and read digital content more quickly with optimized resolution and color quality than other solutions.  This also allows users to easily search digitized content using keywords made possible by the company’s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.

Demand for Digitally Scanned Content

As more people purchase e-readers, smartphones and tablets, the demand for digitally scanned content also rises.  Now, more people read with their devices rather than buying an actual book since a small device  can hold hundreds of books at one time.  Compared to buying actual, physical books, it’s economical and green.  There’s a good chance that digital scanning will proliferate not only in the US but in other markets as well.

For Evernote, the integration brings another action-oriented service to the tool that lets you “remember everything.”  We’ve seen a burgeoning ecosystem emerge from Evernote’s platform, including third-party and native apps for desktop and mobile devices.  Evernote’s trying to go as niche as possible with some of its products and services, and the cloud has really enabled Evernote to do so.

Evernote is currently the only cloud-based service 1DollarScan is integrating with at this level, though the company hopes to extend its product into other areas of the print media sector.  According to 1DollarScan Marketing VP Ryan Brusuelas, there’s a “huge desire from the people to expand this e-book market,” he says.

“The amount of e-books is small but there’s a lot of books out there.  We help create an answer to that problem.  There’s room for the e-book market to grow…and we want to work with more publishers to expand the market.”
