What to Expect from E3 2013?

The much-awaited event for the games industry is about to begin in the next few days. Yes, I’m talking about E3–the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2013. Hosted by the Entertainment Software Association, E3 Conference will kick off on June 11, 2013 at Los Angeles Convention Center.

One of the most exciting things that you can expect to happen at the event is the head-to-head war of Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4.

Microsoft

Microsoft has already sent out invites to a press briefing for June 10 in Los Angeles, one day before E3 officially gets underway. Totally dedicated to Xbox one, this press briefing will start at 4.45 PM BST on Monday 10th, and the best part is that we still don’t know the agenda of the briefing. But we can certainly guess what Microsoft will announce at the E3 conference, i.e., the price of the Xbox One and US release date.

Besides, we can also expect to see the full Xbox 360 console including specs for the Kinect and even the new Gamepad. Microsoft announced Xbox 360 on May 21.

Sony

After all those specs and curiosity-driven sessions, we’ll finally witness and experience the PS4. Sony will showcase its latest console, PlayStation 4 at E3 event. The reason why Sony kept the console hidden from a long time is justified as E3 will give it the just right limelight, especially when the rival Microsoft is showing off its Xbox One as well.

Nintendo

Surprisingly, Nintendo has decided to cut short its presence by deciding to forgo its usual E3 press conference in favor of hosting a smaller, closed-doors events to focus primarily on software. The gaming company is planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on its software lineup for the U.S. market. But yes, Nintendo will broadcast a Nintendo Direct at 7 a.m. PT/ 3 p.m. BST on Tuesday, June 11.

Gaming Titles

Well, as E3 is all about surprises for gamers, we expect to see a lot of new titles at the event. Right from game sequels to brand new titles, there will be lot to relish in at the conference. While no certain list has been thrown out yet, there are certain titles that we expect to see. For example, Watch Dogs is a game to EXPECT. Recently, Ubisoft confirmed that it will on both PS3 and PS4, as well the Xbox 360.

Other titles include Super Smash Bros, next installment of Nintendo’s character brawler franchise, perhaps a new Call of Duty game, Battlefield 4, and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag.

One thing is certain that all leading gaming companies; Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will present something to amuse their customers. This is going to be interesting especially because gaming consoles are taking shape of comprehensive digital entertainment devices. What was once a comparison between gaming machines, these consoles are currently configured as a comparison of multimedia platforms and services. After all, inside each of these machines there are technologies (cloud and streaming) and services that are reshaping our view of digital interaction.
