Cirrity Tackles Hybrid Cloud, Privacy and Security | #VMworld

Dan Timko, CirrityThe business world is buzzing about the hybrid cloud, and while some have adopted it wholeheartedly, others are more skeptical. Cirrity President and CTO Dan Timko had a chat with the hosts of The Cube about the hybrid cloud, compliance, and privacy at VMworld 2013.

Many small to medium sized businesses are going all into the cloud, Timko explained, as they cannot afford to have their money in two pots, but some mid market and enterprise companies are adopting the hybrid cloud, and every sign seems to point to a continuation of that trend.

Cirrity made an investment in building a compliance environment that would allow its customers who need to comply with stringent regulations to let Cirrity handle the details. Even customers of major vendors were asking for this service, and Cirrity has partnered with those vendors to provide on-premise and off-premise compliance solutions.

Timko explained that the biggest challenge of going to the cloud is that few people actually know what is running in their data centers and what the dependencies are. They might make the mistake of moving a single workload only to realize that it points back to ten others in the private cloud.

Regarding data protection and all of the new and old concerns about privacy and government spying, Cirrity offers encryption to customers that only customers can decrypt. Even Cirrity itself does not have access, which protects the company legally and gives the customers some piece of mind. These are security measures customers should be adopting anyway, Timko said.

In closing Timko said there is an amazing opportunity working in the cloud right now and that the market is enormous, leaving plenty of room for people to do what they need to do to be successful. Do something great, and you will be successful.
